How many sites did the Kaposia band of the Mdewakanton occupy in present day South St. Paul?
The Kaposia band of the Mdewakanton were the earliest settlers on the land that is now the City of South St. Paul. Up to 400 people lived in the seasonal village during the early 1800s. The main village site is commemorated with a historical marker on North Concord Street, near Butler Avenue.
However, this was not the only site the band occupied. They also had a teepee site at what is now Lincoln Center Elementary, 357 9th Ave. N., and another camp on the hill just west of Ettinger Field, near South St. Paul Secondary.
