We have an immediate opening for an experienced advertising representative

The advertising representative is one of the most important positions in this company.  The primary source of revenue for our newspapers is derived through advertising sales so it is vitally important for the continued growth and success of this company to have an individual who can effectively and efficiently present the benefits of our advertising services to local and regional businesses.  The advertising representative is both a salesperson and an ambassador of the company.  He/she is also a partner to local businesses and must have a deep desire to help these businesses increase sales and exposure through creative, results-producing ads.

Duties:
The primary duty of the advertising representative is to present the benefits of our newspapers to area businesses through telephone calls and face-to-face meetings.  Establishing a good relationship with our clients and prospective clients is extremely important, as is providing superior customer service.  The advertising representative must invest time to get to know the businesses/business owners and be able ask the right questions to get the information needed to close the sale and most effectively assist the client.
An encapsulated view of a typical day includes:  prospecting for leads, making phone calls to qualify leads and set appointments, meeting clients at their place of business, presenting ideas to the client for effective, timely ads, asking questions to verify/derive information for the ad, cross-selling into all applicable publications, writing/designing the ad and turning it into production, filling out insertion order/billing paperwork, proofing finished ad from production and sending a proof to the client for approval prior to publication.
Apart from the typical daily sales function, the advertising representative will create spec ads (ideas) for clients, assist in developing and implementing creative sales and marketing promotions and strategies, and attend applicable meetings to stay connected to the business community, i.e. chamber and local business association meetings.  The advertising representative will report directly to the publisher but will work with other advertising representatives on promotions/sales ideas, with the production manager for quality control in layout and design of the ads, and with our bookkeeper for billing questions/issues.

Qualifications:
Minimum three years advertising/media sales experience.  The qualified candidate for this position should have a degree in communications or marketing, a valid Minnesota drivers license, reliable transportation and be computer literate.  He/she must also have excellent verbal and written communication skills (bilingual English/Spanish preferred), be outgoing, creative and professionally aggressive.  He/she must also have a professional appearance and demeanor and possess a strong work ethic.  Also, this position requires high organizational skills and the ability to work under minimum supervision, as well as the ability to meet deadlines.
